Ask A Question

In response to the recent earthquake in Puerto Rico, are there new projects or funds we can invest in to help rebuild the island?

Are there additional incentives for OZ investors to help with the disaster?

I don't have one list for all funds, so really that would be something to research online, like a basic Google search on Opportunity Funds Puerto Rico. The tax incentive related to OZ would be the same. However, they may be separate benefits from OZ that you would have to review with your personal tax advisor.

The entire island outside a tiny slice of the territory is an Opportunity Zone. There are no additional incentives under the OZ program itself, but you can always combine OZ benefits with other programs to get more tax leverage out of any investment.

Puerto Rico approved back in May 2019 local conforming legislation. In addition, a new incentive program was created for those priority projects, as defined, that would not qualify for any other of the incentives already in place. Affordable housing, infrastructure, tourism, energy are examples of projects that may qualify for some of the incentives. Now more than ever, Puerto Rico needs investors to consider the opportunities it provides.
