Since South Florida is promoting itself as a cryptocurrency innovation hub and there is now a “MiamiCoin,” does that mean I can invest in Opportunity Zones using digital currency in this state?

    Not likely.

Investing using digital currency is possible but not easy. Digital currency is property under the federal income tax law, so you need to take into account the mixed investment rules and such. If you purchase currency for fiat and then immediately turn around and invest the currency into a Qualified Opportunity Fund (QOF), that should be doable from both the investor and fund perspective.
