John Wegmann is a certified public accountant. He currently serves as the managing director and an Opportunity Zone tax adviser at his own accounting firm based in Chicago.
With more than 20 years of experience in financial analysis, transaction modeling and investment management, Wegmann advises clients on a large variety of issues in different industries and sectors, including real estate, emerging markets, equity and debt investments. He conducts due diligence, carries out extensive analyses and devises strategies to help clients navigate through complex investment scenarios. In the field of Opportunity Zones, he offers customized suggestions to Qualified Opportunity Funds on the development and compliance of projects. He also works closely with private investors to identify optimal investment opportunities.
Prior to establishing his own practice, Wegmann worked as a managing director at New-York based Patriarch Partners, where he structured transactions of distressed commercial bank loans worth $1.8 billion. He also served as a managing director at Papillon Partners, portfolio manager at Grupo Financiero Popular, and tax manager at KPMG US.
Wegmann obtained his bachelor’s degree in economics, accounting and finance from the University of Pennsylvania, and his master’s degree in taxation from Florida International University.
