About Deborah Burns

Deborah Burns is a finance professional. She is the co-founder of investUS LLC and the managing partner of the investUS Opportunity Fund, which focuses on investing in Opportunity Zone businesses and projects. Many of the investments are in smaller cities and communities.

Burns’ financial career spans more than 30 years. She has served as an institutional investment officer in New York City, a finance officer in a New Mexico start-up company and chief lending officer for a community bank.

She also founded the project finance group at TIAA, where she was the lead institutional investor for construction and long-term investments. Burns gas specialized in a wide variety of industries, including energy, transportation, manufacturing, entertainment, media and infrastructure. Burns is knowledgeable about structured finance, asset-backed securitization and infrastructure construction lending.

Burns, a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, has a B.A. in economics from Princeton University and an MBA in finance from New York University. As an undergraduate, she worked with Burton G. Malkiel, head of Princeton's economics department, on his best-selling book, “A Random Walk Down Wall Street.”
