Opportunity Zone Expo Las Vegas
The Opportunity Zone Expo Las Vegas, held at the Mandalay Bay Resorts & Casino on May 9 and 10, attracted more than 1,000 professionals from around the country to learn about the OZ tax incentives for distressed areas.
This two-day event hosted more than 100 distinguished panelists with expertise in investment, taxation, finance, law and business development in the OZ industry. The event featured an impressive lineup of keynote speakers, including Scott Turner, the executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council, U.S. Congressman Mark Amodei (R-NV), and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey.
Nearly 50 sponsors took advantage of this prime event to showcase their businesses and connect with investors.
The expo also marked the debut of the Opportunity Zone Magazine, the country’s first trade publication dedicated to this exciting tax incentive. This inaugural issue featured the distinguished Top 25 Opportunity Zone Influencers award winners, recognized in sections of attorneys, fund managers and developers, tax specialists, policy influencers and professionals in specialized fields of the OZ industry.
Opportunity Zone Expo New York
Opportunity Zone Expo New York was yet another successful OZ conference at the Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge hotel on Aug. 9.
The one-day expo featured cutting-edge panel topics and impressive speakers, including keynotes Ben Carson, United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and Scott Turner, executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council.
Fund managers, attorneys, real estate developers, tax professionals, investment bankers, institutional investors and government officials packed the panels rooms to learn about OZ investments.
Opportunity Zone Expo Chicago
Opportunity Zone Expo Chicago was held in August in response to the strong market demand for regional networking and educational opportunities in the OZ industry.
The event took place at the Radisson Blue Aqua Hotel in Chicago and drew hundreds of key stakeholders. The successful event featured packed panel rooms and a bustling exhibitor hall. Panels were moderated by seasoned industry professionals and included topics such as Qualified Opportunity Fund structures, real estate transaction formation, the impact of OZ rules on the local markets, as well as expert guidance for current OZ property owners.
This event also highlighted three keynote speakers, including Michael Frerichs, Illinois State Treasuror; Joseph Galvan, the Midwest regional administrator of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; and Erin Guthrie, the acting director of the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity.
Opportunity Zone Expo Houston
The Opportunity Zone Expo Houston on Oct. 10 was held at the Westin Galleria Houston with a keynote address from Congressman Pete Olson (R-TX).
Hundreds of industry stakeholders, investors and developers attended the expo. Keynotes were Lance Allred, former NBA player, and Amanda Edwards, Houston City Council member, who both shared their insights.
Attendees learned about securities laws, how businesses can use OZ funding, best practices for impact investing as well as the unique investment opportunities within the Texas market.
The Opportunity Zone Expo will finish up its 2019 nationwide tour with the upcoming conference in Miami on Nov. 14. It is headlined by the release of the new issue of Opportunity Zone Magazine.
